Summary

The Japanese phenomenon that teaches us the simple yet profound lessons required to liberate our real selves and find lasting happiness.

The Courage to Be Disliked shows you how to unlock the power within yourself to become your best and truest self, change your future and find lasting happiness. Using the theories of Alfred Adler, one of the three giants of 19th-century psychology alongside Freud and Jung, the authors explain how we are all free to determine our own future - free of the shackles of past experiences, doubts and the expectations of others.

It's a philosophy that's profoundly liberating, allowing us to develop the courage to change and to ignore the limitations that we and those around us can place on ourselves. The result is an audiobook that is both highly accessible and profound in its importance. Millions have already benefited from its wisdom. Now that The Courage to Be Disliked has been published in English, so can you.

This book changes everything

I can't even begin to tell you how much this book has helped me in so many ways, and I think the details would be meaningless as I imagine each person will get something unique from it. So instead all I will do is recommend it to everyone.

stick with it.

I found it initially frustrating to listen to because of the way it is read like a script between two characters, naming each one before they speak, however it's not too long before this is largely reduced and the dialogue flows more naturally, (this could be massively improved by having a second reader play the part of the youth). The content of the book is brilliant and has sparked my interest in Socrates, Plato and Adler, along with the authors of this book.

Very impressed

I happened upon this via suggestions from Audible and so glad I gave it a chance

I like how its performed as a conversation instead of someone pontificating in your ears and at times could of sworn it was like listening to Dumbledore due to the narrators voice

Its not too long and set out with easily manageable chunks because this book leaves you with a lot to absorb and think about so you can pause and resume as you need.

Has definitely inspired me and I now have developed a real interest in Adlerian psychology and can honesty say that this has really had an effect on how I see things.

Had to give it a chance

After the first 30 minutes or so, I thought that this is not for me. I think I even was a little annoyed by it but it really grew on me. There were a few light bulb moments even and after finishing, I feel that this was well worth listening to.

Some very useful concepts

Some very useful concepts within the book, which are told in a way that's easy to apply to real life situations. The narrator is good but the whining youth character really gets on your nerves!

Absolutely recommend

The Courage to Be Disliked has became an instant favourite of mine, probably within only the first few chapters. Give it a try.

Question everything! Look at the world through different eyes.

I really enjoyed this audiobook albeit difficult to challenge your own belief system. Initially I felt it was slow and didn’t like the conversational format between the student and the philosopher however, after persevering for 15 minutes I rather enjoyed the conversation.

After listening to the book I felt enlightened and empowered to not be afraid of being myself where I can add value to ‘my comrades’ as referred to in the book and also might buy the physical copy to refer to. After hearing it from start to finish I feel that I can use the physical copy as a reference.

Overall I would certainly recommend, and if you do decide to purchase the book, persevere, it’s worth it.
