Hey there! My name's Dan, and my passion is helping people develop a deeper, more intuitive understanding of math and physics.

When I was in college, there were many times where one of my classmates would ask the professor a question, the professor would give an unhelpful reply, and I would sit there frustrated that they had completely misunderstood the heart of my classmate's question. I realized that I had a knack for understanding the specific obstacle a person was encountering with understanding a concept, which put me in a great position to help them overcome that obstacle. As a result, I started teaching and tutoring math as a college junior in 2015, and I've been loving it ever since.

I also love connecting with my students on a human-to-human level (rather than just a tutor-to-student level), which means that, while my *focus* in each session is to help them understand concepts they're struggling with, I always leave room for humour and tangential conversation. My goal is not just that students learn a lot from their sessions with me, but that they also enjoy the time they've spent in those sessions.

As accreditations go, I currently hold a BS (summa cum laude) in Applied Math and a BA (summa cum laude) in Physics from Northwestern University, an MSc in Mathematical Sciences (pure math focus) from Durham University, and an MASt in Pure Mathematics (theoretical physics focus) from the University of Cambridge.

When I'm not tutoring, I'm often teaching for Art of Problem Solving (AoPS), where I've taught contest math and Beast Academy classes on their Virtual Campus, taught everything from introductory geometry to physics Olympiad prep for AoPS Online, and even spent a summer at AoPS HQ revising and developing the curriculum used by AoPS Online instructors. When I'm not teaching at *all*, I can often be found reading books, writing essays, attending concerts, attending Meetup groups, visiting new cities, and visiting old friends.

Flexible, Patient and Knowledgeable

Dan helped my high school son to solve quite some F=ma contest problems, which were pretty hard and required a very solid physics background. He is a very patient tutor and he's very flexible and willing to accommodate the session length as needed. He tries to help the student to reach the solution through thinking and discussion instead of presenting them the answer. My son enjoys sessions with Dan. He has become more interested in solving problems and feels more confident.

Efficient and effective tutor

Dan has worked with my son - primarily to prepare him for exams for his High School Physics class. Dan reviews the material in advance and works step by to step to ensure that my son understands the material - both in concept and in practice. A+ tutor - recommended without reservation.
