1. Samsonite

Samsonite is a name almost as popular as Rimowa. Those who spend a lot of time traveling for work or play find the Samsonite brand to meet their needs. The company consistently marries function with style, with practical designs and thoughtful features while remaining relatively affordable.Their extensive catalog includes various sizes, styles, and colors to choose from—including hard and soft-sided carry-on and hold luggage, wheeled duffels, backpacks, and garment bags. Features often include expansion options and an integrated, TSA-approved lock.

Samsonite usually uses durable materials, like polycarbonate and nylon. These luggage are durable enough to be used frequently, although it won’t withstand ultra-rough conditions. When used frequently, their suitcases will usually last 2-5 years. But for most people, who use luggage only a few times per year, it should last over a decade. Of course,  some of their cheaper models are built from a bit weaker ones, like polyester and polypropylene. In a word, Samsonite makes excellent luggage at some of the best prices, which is why I named it as the top Rimowa alternative.

2. American Tourister

For solid luggage that won't break the bank, American Tourister is a great option. Many of its carry-ons start under $100, and while they may not last you a lifetime, they certainly won't break down anytime soon either.  There are numerous roller bag options in varying sizes, including both hard-sided and soft-sided suitcases.  While there are also some nice wheeled underseat bags, American Tourister hasn't branched out much from classic roller bags.

Some of their hardside models are built from polycarbonate/ABS mixes or virgin polycarbonate, which both are much more crack-resistant materials. The spinner wheels aren't quite as high-end as premium options but still easily roll on most surfaces. Their  soft-sided suitcases are usually built from cheaper and less-durable materials, such as ABS and polyester. But they’re still durable enough for leisure travelers, who only travel occasionally. When taken care of, their luggage should last anywhere between 5-10 years. All in all,  compared to other affordable luggage brands, American Tourister luggage are usually a bit beefier and heavier.
